Q: What were the best selling flavors in 2003?
A: New England Toffee Company opened in February, 2003 with nine standard flavors. About 2 months later we added the Cinnamon & Sugar flavor after requests for a "non-chocolate" toffee. In October, 2003 after requests to mix toffee flavors, we began offering an "Assorted Toffees" which contains all 10 flavors.

Following are the percentages sold for each flavor of toffee that we offer. It is interesting to note the popularity of the Cinnamon & Sugar Toffee and the Assorted Toffees given that they were not available for the entire year!

Through December 31, 2003:
  • 1. Cinnamon and Sugar Toffee - 18.04%
  • 2. Milk Chocolate Toffee - 17.83%
  • 3. Almonds and Milk Chocolate Toffee - 17.34%
  • 4. Almonds and Dark Chocolate Toffee - 16.61%
  • 5. Dark Chocolate Toffee - 14.62%
  • 6. Assorted Toffees (all 10 flavors) - 10.74%
  • 7. Pecans and Milk Chocolate Toffee - 1.67%
  • 8. Semi-sweet Chocolate Toffee - 1.34%
  • 9. Pecans and Semi-sweet Chocolate Toffee - 0.86%
  • 10. Almonds and Semi-sweet Chocolate Toffee - 0.78%
  • 11. Pecans and Dark Chocolate Toffee - 0.16%
Most of the toffee we found has nuts. We have tried to accomodate those of you who prefer your toffee without nuts for one reason or another. During 2003, 51.63% of the toffee that we sold did not contain nuts. (This number was closer to 60% before we began offering the Assorted Toffees.)

Looking for something different! - To date New England Toffee Company has received special orders for Almond Toffee (no nuts or chocolate), Assorted Toffees without Nuts, a mix of Almonds with Milk & Dark Chocolate and Toffee with Cashews. Try one of these or come up with your own idea.

  • 2. Almonds and Milk Chocolate Toffee - 17.55%
  • 3. Dark Chocolate Toffee - 16.21%
  • 4. Assorted Toffees (all 10 flavors) - 14.09%
  • 5. Almonds and Dark Chocolate Toffee - 13.08%
  • 6. Cinnamon & Sugar Toffee - 9.32%
  • 7. Pecans and Milk Chocolate Toffee - 2.87%
  • 8. Semi-sweet Chocolate Toffee - 2.20%
  • 9. Pecans and Semi-sweet Chocolate Toffee - 2.16%

49.57% of all toffee sold in 2004 contained no nuts. 50.43% contained nuts.

In 2005, Assorted Toffees with No Nuts was added.

56.30% of all toffee sold in 2005 had no nuts. 43.70% contained nuts.

In 2006 special orders of Pecan Toffee and Assorted Toffees with/without Nuts were added.

  • 4. Almonds and Dark Chocolate Toffee - 15.80%
  • 5. Assorted Toffees (all 10 flavors) - 5.42%
  • 6. Cinnamon & Sugar Toffee - 4.74%
  • 7. Pecans and Milk Chocolate Toffee - 1.15%
  • 8. Pecans & Semi-sweet Chocolate Toffee - 0.95%
  • 9. Assorted Toffees with No Nuts - 0.90%
  • 10. Pecan Toffee - 0.60%
  • 11. Assorted Toffees with Nuts - 0.30%
  • 12. Semi-sweet Chocolate Toffee - 0.20% (tie)
  • 12. Pecans and Dark Chocolate Toffee - 0.20% (tie)
53.07% of all toffee sold in 2006 had no nuts. 46.93% contained nuts.



Q: Are there any trends?
A: 
  • Milk Chocolate is the favorite and maintains a solid lead over 2nd place Dark Chocolate.
  • Toffee without nuts was preferred over nuts in 3 out of 4 years.
  • For those who like nuts, almonds are preferred over pecans.
